Sin City Gallery Presents… MULTIPLES: The Art Work Of John Wayne Gacy!

Las Vegas, NV – The Arts Factory will exhibit MULTIPLES: The Art Work of John Wayne Gacy, featuring selected works of art by the serial killer from May 5 through May 28, 2011 at Sin City Gallery. Multiples will set the stage for the largest outsider art exhibition by a solo artist on the West Coast. Over 70 works of art, memorabilia and audio conversations by Gacy will be available to the public at the Contemporary Arts Center in September of 2011.
Dr. Jack Levin of Northeastern University will discuss SERIAL MURDER: Myth And Reality. Using his 30 years of experience studying serial killers, Dr. Levin examines the misconceptions and misunderstandings that have been widely accepted about the phenomenon of serial murder. In his presentation, Levin employs his up-close-and personal experiences as well as his systematic research to examine characteristics of notorious killers, the horrific crimes they commit, and their widespread public fascination. Dr. David Gussak of Florida State University, an expert on art therapy and prisoner art, will present UNMASKING THE ART: Exploring And Deconstructing The Art Of John Wayne Gacy. Gussak will use the art of Gacy as a catalyst to explore and present the work of the convicted criminal. This presentation will illustrate how the art can provide a glimpse of the murderer behind the mask. Lectures will take place at The Arts Factory in May.
Sin City Gallery owner Dr. Laura Henkel states, “Whether you like the art or not, the history surrounding Gacy and his work cannot be ignored. While I was conducting the appraisal and evaluating the provenance of the portfolio, I was struck by the issue of censorship and the public reaction to either destroy the art or collect it. It is indeed controversial.”
Proceeds from the sale of artwork and lectures will benefit the National Center for the Victims of Crime Fund in Washington, D.C, the 18b Arts District and the Contemporary Arts Center in Las Vegas.
